Description

To demonstrate that sound requires a medium for transmission. The apparatus shows that the sound of a bell becomes inaudible as air is removed from the jar, illustrating the role of air in the propagation of sound. Comprises electrically operated bell encased in bell jar with rubber stopper keeping air tight which have two terminals mounted on top.? Bell is connected to terminals through wire connection.

Functionality: 

  • When the bell is connected to a power source, it rings audibly.
  • As air is pumped out via the valve, sound fades gradually and stops when a vacuum is created.
  • When air is reintroduced, sound becomes audible again.
