To precisely measure the linear expansion of a metal rod when heated, allowing calculation of the coefficient of linear expansion. Consisting of two rods connecting two cast iron supports that support two sliding supports for a glass jacket with inlet and outlet tubes. One end-piece has a contact screw and the other has a Spherometer that measures to 0.01 mm. A half-turn of the glass jacket places the brass and aluminium rods that are attached through corks inside the jacket, putting the rod in contact with the Spherometer. Rubber bands can be used to secure the thermometer to either of the rods. The moment of contact between the centre tube and the Spherometer is indicated by the addition of terminals to electrical circuit equipment, One each of copper, brass, and iron expansion rods is included.
