CONDUCTO METER
Description
To compare the thermal conductivity of different metals by observing the rate of heat transfer from a central heated point. Comprises five radial rods of different metals of brass, copper, aluminium, iron, and stainless steel. Solid brass disc holding the six rods at equidistant radial angles. Each rod has a cavity at outer end to hold paraffin. Wooden handle is attached to brass disc to hold it over the flame and the wax will melt at different times. Size: 130x80mm diameter (Outer x Inner)
Working Principle: (NOT MEANT FOR CATALOGUE)
- Heat is applied at the central disc (e.g. with a Bunsen burner).
- Heat travels along each metal rod.
Wax pellets (often placed at the end of each rod) melt at different rates, demonstrating relative thermal conductivities.
