This educational model demonstrates the stages of germination and early development of a monocot (maize) seed. It is mounted on a base and includes clearly numbered parts with an accompanying English key card for easy reference.
The model illustrates the following stages:
Longitudinal section of a maize grain.
Emergence of the radicle through the coleorhiza.
Coleoptile growing straight within the soil, along with the formation of primary and a few adventitious roots.
Coleoptile emerging above the soil surface.
Coleoptile breaking open as the plumule, covered with young leaves, begins to emerge.
Development of the shoot bearing the first two leaves.
It serves as an excellent visual aid for studying monocot seed germination and early plant growth.
